Featured: Utterly Engaged! issue 11

Goooood morning!

I wanted to post on our latest feature with Utterly Engaged’s issue 11! The entire issue is themed “On Memory Lane” and I love, love, love the sweet vintage real wedding photos! Thank you to Utterly Engaged for having us do the shoot. Thanks to my awesome friends J & R for letting us crash their awesome house. I had fun with this one, color is always so refreshing! Olivia of Zoie Events & I stylized these down to the nail polish and booties… what a great experience and team! And how amazing are the shots from Connie M. Chung? All I can say is she worked it!!

Please check out the entire article here! Here’s some eye candy for you:

The happy couple:

There’s always something so darling about boys carrying bouquets for their ladies.. Freesia and Godetia with a Rose collar bouquet. Godetia feels like the finest silk I swear.

Rwar…

This shot was fun… the aftermath of cleaning up.. eh, not so much. I completely understand why some venues do not allow petals, etc. to be tossed.

Wait, did I mention one of our shots is on the cover??

My own personal excitement

Ever since we’ve been engaged, and as a floral designer, everyone has asked me, ‘What kind of flowers are you doing for your wedding?’ my inner response to that is of course, panic. i just smirk and tell people, ‘i don’t know yet!’ and try to run away from the conversation…. because really, i have no clue. well, at least i have a color scheme. which reincarnated plenty of times.

It’s a blessing to be in the industry and know all my options… but it’s also kind of a problem for me. i am constantly inspired and seeing cool things here and there. and of course i LOVE everything i see and cannot make a decision for myself (much easier for clients!). but last night folks, as i was using left over flowers to dress up my home, i had an epiphany.

I think i created what looks to be the beginning of my own bouquet! it was a big DUH… some of my favorite flowers! Silver brunia, white mini carnations, scabiosa pods, and a collar of blue virburnum berries. i will probably add more greens as well as a splash of color in the tying of it… otherwise, i think this is it! Weird because i thought i wanted fancy varieties with showy blooms… ‘special’ flowers such as cattleya orchids and beardless irises, or a bouquet of fringed & parrot tulips with a collar of garden roses.. you know, there are high expectations to be met (oh the pressure). sigh. this makes me happy. and it’s very much me.

i honestly believe people who can’t appreciate the beauty of carnations are  c r a z y! (read about my gripe on that HERE). i mean, can you not see the frilly ruffly beauty of these blooms? Heaven!  i can’t stop staring at my left over flowers…

Ps. Speaking of Beardless irises, i have a few gorgeous stems on my balcony waiting to bloom. I will definitely share when they flower.
